Intercultural Exchange

Intercultural exchange
in connection with table tennis

TT-SCOUTING stands for intercultural exchange in connection with table tennis. We support players in the Peruvian city Huancayo by providing professional training opportunities. Our base in Peru is managed by Ivan Santivañez Portocarrero, who, with the help of TT-SCOUTING, lived in Germany between 2014 and 2018. Together with his partner Katerina Rehorkova, former Swiss table tennis national player and a trained nanny, he trains the players in his hometown daily in the club's own table tennis hall. The TT-SCOUTING concept expects that sport and education go hand in hand. Accordingly, sporting activities are always linked to educational measures. For example, if you want to practise, you must have done your homework.

First visitors to Peru!

Whenever possible, we support the team around Ivan personally. We were already able to convince some experienced table tennis coaches and players from Germany and Switzerland of our project. Without further ado, they spent their holidays in Peru and helped us in our "Penthouse hall" with some training lessons to the players. By contributing their skills to the exchange program, the players in Peru benefited immensely.

Young people from Peru
visiting Germany!

Thanks to the TT-SCOUTING network, 4 young people from Peru were able to train for a total of 4 weeks in Germany, France and Switzerland in January 2020 and took part in the competition of league matches and tournaments. An unforgettable experience for them. Local clubs and partners provided food and lodging and were happy about the temporary international reinforcement.

Promotion

This project is based in the city of Huancayo in the province of Junin, the hometown of Ivan Santivañez Portocarrero. The location outside the capital Lima was deliberately chosen. Because the provinces of Peru receive hardly any funding from the government in terms of sports and education. Most children and adolescents therefore lack the opportunity to reasonably pursue a hobby. It is difficult to find new friends or to make contacts that might give them and their families a better future. The concept of TT-SCOUTING integrates this into the project right from the start. In addition to promoting sports, children and young people should also be able to develop personally. Instead of crime and drugs on the streets they shall learn to take responsibility and face new challenges; both important points for increasing self-confidence and self-esteem. In addition, young people are taken “off the streets” and away from drugs, crime and poverty.

Table tennis and vacation in Peru - It is worth it!

Interested visitors are given the opportunity to get to know the beautiful country of Peru and the hospitality of the people in a way that no "normal" tourist can experience. They combine the tourist experience with their favorite sport: they pass on their know-how as players and / or coaches to the athletes in the region. Both sides benefit from this and friendships can develop. Visitors and athletes of the high performance table tennis center will, whenever possible, be accommodated in host families or in the two guest rooms in the house. The ulterior motive here is the intercultural exchange. Otherwise there is the possibility to stay in one of the small, typical hotels of the city. The Peruvians are known for their great and friendly hospitality. In the near future, it is planned that visitors can stay in the apartments of the center and will be accompanied by Ivan Santivañez Portocarrero and his family.

In short: The unique concept of "TT-SCOUTING" makes everyone a winner.
